How many types of car shock absorbers are there?
1. According to the angle of damping material
Hydraulic type: Hydraulic shock absorbers are widely used in automobile suspension systems. The principle is that when the frame and the axle reciprocate relative to each other and the piston reciprocates in the cylinder barrel of the shock absorber, the oil in the shock absorber shell will repeatedly flow from the inner cavity through some narrow pores to the other cavity. At this time, the friction between the liquid and the inner wall and the internal friction of the liquid molecules form a damping force on the vibration.
Features of hydraulic shock absorbers:
(1) The damping oil has a low boiling point and is sensitive to high temperature;
(2) Daily driving use;
(3) Emphasize driving comfort;
(4) Urban use, suitable for short-distance driving;
Air pressure type: Air pressure shock absorber is a new type of shock absorber developed since the 1960s. Its structural feature is that a floating piston is installed at the lower part of the cylinder, and a closed air chamber formed at the end of the floating piston and the cylinder is filled with high-pressure nitrogen. A large-section O-ring is installed on the floating piston, which completely separates oil and gas. The working piston is equipped with a compression valve and an expansion valve that change the cross-sectional area of the channel with the speed of its movement. When the wheel bounces up and down, the working piston of the shock absorber reciprocates in the oil, causing an oil pressure difference between the upper chamber and the lower chamber of the working piston, and the pressure oil pushes the compression valve and the expansion valve to flow back and forth. Because the valve produces a large damping force on the pressure oil, the vibration is attenuated.
Air pressure shock absorber features:
(1) High pressure air is not sensitive to temperature;
(2) Suitable for sports and competition driving;

2. According to the structural angle
Compound cylinder shock absorber: Compound cylinder shock absorber is also called Twin Tube Damper. The cylinder body has a double structure. The piston part at the tip of the shaft and the assembly at the bottom of the tube generate damping force. (The former is the main piston assembly, and the latter is called the fixed valve assembly.) The space outside the pipe becomes the oil reservoir chamber (sub tank=auxiliary tank), and the oil with a volume equivalent to the shaft in and out enters and exits the reservoir chamber. The reservoir chamber is enclosed in atmospheric pressure air or nitrogen (Nitrogen) gas, which absorbs the volume of oil entering and leaving due to the compression and expansion of the gas.
During the extension movement, the upper chamber of the piston is pressurized, and the oil makes the assembly on the extension side (the lower side of the piston) bend under pressure and gradually generate a damping force, and flows to the lower chamber of the piston. Because the shaft withdraws from the oil in the cylinder body at this time, the amount of oil corresponding to the volume of the shaft in the lower chamber of the piston is insufficient, and the insufficient oil amount is replenished by flowing out of the reservoir chamber. At this time, almost no damping force will occur to fix the valve assembly.
During the shortening movement, the lower chamber of the piston is pressurized, and the oil makes the assembly on the shortening side (the upper side of the piston) bend under pressure and gradually generate a damping force, and flows to the upper chamber of the piston. In addition, the oil under the pressurized piston pushes the fixed valve assembly, and flows to the reservoir chamber while generating damping force.
The characteristics of compound cylinder shock absorber:
Advantages: The manufacturing cost is cheap; because it is a double structure, a little deformation of the outer cylinder can be tolerated; the structure has sufficient length, so it can ensure sufficient stroke;
Disadvantages: It cannot be used when it is excessively tilted; the volume of the air chamber on the structure is small, the volume change (pressure change) of the air chamber is large, and it is easy to exceed the pressure resistance of the oil seal; the gas and oil are not separated, and aeration (mixed into the liquid) is easy to occur In the case of air, if you want to improve the sports performance and increase the damping force, cavitation (decompression boiling) is easy to occur, so it is difficult to produce stable damping force; there is no way to increase the piston diameter, so it is not easy to make fine damping force Adjustment; Due to the relationship between the cost and the cost performance of production, the compound-tube shock absorber generally adopts this structure in the original shock absorber of the vehicle.
Single-tube shock absorber: Single-tube shock absorber is called single tube, mono tube, De Carbon (inventor) type and so on. High-pressure air is sealed under a single cylinder, and a free piston structure is designed in between so that the air does not mix with the oil. The damping force is generated by the expansion and contraction damping forces of the piston assembly arranged on the piston part at the tip of the shaft, and the volume change of the shaft volume is absorbed by the expansion and compression of the gas. In the single-cylinder type, high-pressure nitrogen (Nitrogen) gas is sealed under the free piston, and a very high value is used so that the upper chamber of the piston does not become negative pressure during shortening motion.
Features of monotube shock absorbers:
Advantages: the relationship between gas and oil separation, no cavitation, aeration, can produce stable damping force; free configuration (inverted type can be used); the strut type can be inverted, and it is better to increase the air pressure to improve the damping force; The gas reaction force of the compound cylinder is small, and the ride comfort is better; the diameter of the piston can be increased, so that the damping force can be finely adjusted.
